Privacy policy
Last updated: 14 September 2026
Quilovat runs this shop and website, together with all the information, content, features, tools, products and services that go with it, so that you can shop a curated collection (the Services). Quilovat is powered by Shopify, which is what allows us to provide the Services to you. This Privacy Policy sets out how we collect, use and disclose your personal information when you visit or use the Services, make a purchase or another transaction through them, or contact us in any other way. Where our Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy conflict, this Privacy Policy prevails on anything to do with the collection, processing and disclosure of your personal information.
Please read it carefully. By using the Services you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy and understand how your information is collected, used and disclosed.
Which privacy law applies
We sell to customers in Canada, so we handle your personal information under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), the federal law covering personal information collected in the course of commercial activity in Canada. If you live in Quebec, Alberta or British Columbia, your province also has its own private sector privacy legislation, and the rights it gives you apply on top of this policy.
The personal information we collect or process
By personal information we mean information that identifies you or another person, or that can reasonably be linked to you. It does not cover information collected anonymously or stripped of anything that could identify you. Depending on how you use the Services we may collect or process:
- Contact details, such as your name, address, billing address, delivery address, phone number and email address.
- Financial information, such as credit or debit card and account numbers, payment card details, transaction details, the form of payment and payment confirmations.
- Account information, such as your username, password, preferences and settings.
- Transaction information, such as the pieces you view, put in your basket, add to a wishlist, buy, return, exchange or cancel, and your order history.
- Your messages to us, for example when you send a question to customer support.
- Device information, such as details of your device, browser or network connection, your IP address and other unique identifiers.
- Usage information, such as how and when you move around the Services.
We keep what we collect to what we actually need for the purposes below.
Where that information comes from
We may collect personal information directly from you, automatically through the Services by way of cookies and similar technologies, from the service providers we work with, and from our partners or other third parties.
How we use your personal information
To run, tailor and improve the Services; to process and deliver your order and handle returns; for marketing and advertising; for security and fraud prevention; to answer you and keep in touch about your order; and for legal reasons, including complying with the law that applies to us and enforcing our terms.
Consent and your choices about marketing
We collect, use and disclose your personal information with your consent, except where the law allows or requires us to act otherwise. When you place an order you consent to us using your details to process and deliver it and to contact you about it.
We send marketing email, such as our newsletter, only to people who have asked for it or who are already our customers, in line with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Every marketing message identifies us, gives our contact details and carries an unsubscribe link. If you unsubscribe we act on it without delay and in any event within 10 business days. You can also withdraw your consent at any time by writing to info@quilovat.com. Withdrawing consent for marketing does not stop the messages we have to send you about an order you have placed.
How we disclose personal information
We disclose personal information to Shopify, and to vendors and other third parties who carry out services for us, such as IT management, payment processing, data analytics, customer support, cloud storage, fulfilment and shipping. We may also disclose it to business and marketing partners, where you direct, request or otherwise consent, to our affiliates, and in connection with a business transaction, a legal obligation, or to protect the Services. We do not sell your personal information.
Relationship with Shopify
The Services are hosted by Shopify, which collects and processes personal information about your access to and use of the Services in order to provide and improve them. Information you submit through the Services is transmitted to and shared with Shopify, and with third parties that may sit in countries other than the one you live in, so that those services can be provided to you.
Third party websites and links
The Services may link to websites run by third parties. We are not responsible for how those sites handle privacy, and we suggest you read their policies before giving them any information.
Children's data
The Services are not meant for children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information about anyone under the age of majority in their jurisdiction. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security and how long we keep your information
We protect your personal information with safeguards appropriate to how sensitive it is. No transmission over the internet and no method of electronic storage is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security. We keep your personal information for as long as the purposes in this policy require, or for as long as a legal obligation requires, and then delete it or make it anonymous.
Your rights and choices
You can ask us for access to the personal information we hold about you, and for an explanation of how it has been used and to whom it has been disclosed. You can ask us to correct anything inaccurate or incomplete, ask us to delete information we no longer need, withdraw your consent, and ask for a copy of the information you gave us in a structured, commonly used technological format. If you live in Quebec, you may also ask us to stop disseminating information about you or to de-index a link, where the law gives you that right.
To exercise any of these rights, write to info@quilovat.com. We may need to confirm who you are before we act, and we will reply within the time limit the applicable privacy law sets.
Who is responsible for your personal information
Smidcom, trading as Quilovat, is responsible for the personal information in its possession or under its control, including information handled on our behalf by our service providers. The person responsible for the protection of personal information can be reached by email at info@quilovat.com.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we handle your personal information, please tell us first at info@quilovat.com. If our answer does not satisfy you, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca. If you live in Quebec, Alberta or British Columbia, you can also complain to your provincial privacy regulator.
International transfers
Your personal information may be transferred to, stored in and processed in countries other than Canada, including the Netherlands, where our company is established, and other countries where Shopify and our service providers operate. While it is in another country it is subject to the laws of that country and may be accessible to its courts, law enforcement and national security authorities. Wherever it is processed, we take steps to keep it protected in line with this policy and with the law that applies.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, to reflect a change in our practices or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons. The current version is always the one on this page.
Our other policies
